Children's Cancer Foundation
What: Fun Drama Based Workshops for Children.
Objective: Instill early-age positive responses to life's later challenges
From discussions and brainstorming with IHS team members who have lived the cancer journey and trained psychologists, some needs were defined which may assist patients and caregivers - but as importantly, some preventative needs were defined, which has lead to the development of a programme to work on the Resistance Muscle for children and young people.
By creating positive responses to negative situations in youngsters, research has shown youngsters who have had +ve responses instilled from early ages respond better to traumatic situations in later life.
Building the Resistance Muscle
An actor led fun workshop aimed at Kindergarten Children ages 5-7, specially created to instill positive responses via fun play scenarios. The aim is to provide some positive and constructive responses and outlets when 'bad things happen'. In the workshop, those 'bad things' are reduced to bite-sized chunks such as 'what to do when my goldfish dies' or 'my cat went missing, what next' or 'I'm upset I lost my favourite toy'.
Issues are communicated using theatre, facilitated by our experienced team of actors.
The play-based activities will encourage children both ill and healthy to intermingle, experience a sense of community and learning while having great fun!
